Space Between Us (A Digital Community Garden) - Public Art Project, 2025

In a time of digital disconnection and siloed stories…

Our public art project Space Between Us, offers a gentle, welcoming invitation to be witnessed—and to witness others. Space Between Us is a digital community gathering place where individuals and families of all kinds are invited to cultivate deeper relationships through creative expression. The project invites the public to respond to multimedia prompts— writing, photography, drawing, or sound—that explore themes of family, memory, and human interdependence. We hope to bring people closer together by gently closing the space between us.

We like to think of this space as a friendly <digital> community garden…

In this space, we invite you to plant your creative seeds through storytelling prompts, document your projects, and move beyond passive scrolling through action and authentic connection.

At its heart, Space Between Us is both a creative outlet and a growing archive. While Space Between Us is an interactive site for creative expression and reflection, it’s also a growing archive to transform individual experiences into a shared digital tapestry.

About our artist collective

We are three artists—Louella, Ana, and Heidi—whose creative practices are rooted in family, care, and belonging. Our work spans painting, writing, product design, photography, and storytelling, but our common thread is this:

We are friends who want to bring people closer together by gently shortening the distance or space between us.

We have long explored the themes of family, caregiving, and interdependence across disciplines. Louella’s art–painting, poetry, or video–stems from their experience growing up in a Filipino immigrant family. Ana’s background as a pediatric occupational therapist supporting families through medical trauma shapes Ana’s understanding of care. Heidi’s photography captures moments of motherhood or chosen family and her work is informed by growing up on a family mushroom farm.

Our lived experiences ground Space Between Us in authenticity and honors the quiet, everyday ways families of all kinds may show up for each other across distance and time.
